Product Review
MAK Grilling Sauces and Dry Rubs
This is our first offical product review. I want to be as fair and objective as we can. You may wonder why I say that, it is because I know my tastes are off the beaten track. I like things hot and spicy. Patti likes them milder but sharp. I have had this confirmed by our "Crash Test Dummies", where I sometimes set them on fire. But, they love it.
Unknowing to my " Crash Test Team" they were served all of these products, too.
Let's get to the sauce of things. MAK has a variety of sauces. Something for everybody, simply put. I used these sauces on ribs both beef and pork, chicken, burgers, shrimp and meatloaf. All good with no complaints or leftovers from anyone. Until we got to the " Devils Punch". This one was a little hot for most...
Me, I thought it was great! I very seldom get something off the shelf that has enough zing to it to get my attention. Good for wings, ribs, burgers and I enjoyed on my favorite, cold meatloaf sandwiches. GREAT STUFF !!
MAK GRILLING SAUCES
DEVIL’S PUNCH - Our hottest sauce! Literally. If you like it smoking hot, this is the one for you. Using habanero peppers for a base, this is one grilling sauce sure to leave a sheen on your forehead, and remind you how many tastebuds you have on your tongue!
HICKORY - The flavor of the West can be found with our Hickory Grilling Sauce. This tomato based sauce packs lots of flavor, and compliments beef, pork, chicken, even lamb with that traditional barbecue flavor.
HONEY BOURBON - The sweetness of both honey and bourbon are combined for award winning flavor. Not too sweet, with a nod to an American original, bourbon. It’s great on everything!
HONEY STINGER - We call this one the “sweet-heat” of our grilling sauce line. A little spicy sauce with a sweet side to it. You may tingle a bit, but you won’t get stung.
RUM - Yo ho-ho and a bottle of MAK RUM GRILLING SAUCE is the life for us! A very flavorful sauce indeed. This sauce is also a great marinade for chicken and pork.
WHISKEY - You don’t have to be of legal age to enjoy this great grilling sauce. A nice touch of whiskey to help bring out all the great flavor of this savory tomato based sauce.
MAK GRILLS Dry Rub Seasonings

SWEET RUB: Excellent to use on ribs, pork, chicken & beef.
BIRD RUB: Great with turkey, chicken and all other fowl!
MESQUITE RUB: Awesome on all meats & vegetables!
FISH RUB: Perfect with all seafood & fish
CAJUN RUB: Great with all meats & vegetables!
CHIPOTLE RUB: Great with chicken, shellfish, burgers and vegetables!
Let's talk about dry rubs for a bit. Most have a lot of salt. There is a reason for that. The salt sears the the meat , thus sealing in the natural juices. That helps keep the meat/fish juicy and flavorful after cooking.
The trouble I have is that it makes things too salty for our taste.
I have used all of MAK's rubs except the Fish Rub. I just haven't done any fish is why I haven't used it yet. Our Crash Test guys have enjoyed them all. Use sparingly and they add a nice layer of flavor.
Me, I really like the Chipotle. The Cajun is nice when you are going in that direction. Patti especially likes the bird rub on all kinds of chicken recipes.
Product review for Cholula Hot Sauce

Sirloin Soft Tacos
This week I wanted to do a product review for Cholula Hot Sauce. My thoughts here there was no way I can do this because I already enjoy the sauces and have a few bottles in my cupboard. Patti won’t have eggs without it and Ken especially likes it on his potato salad.
So, I thought I would put it to my “Crash Test Dummies” without saying anything. To do this I called some “Testers” over to have some Sirloin Soft Tacos off the Royall wood pellet grill/smoker. When it came time to eat I had already set a Cholula 4 pack on the table with all the fixins and just sat back and watched.
We are all used to the Cholula Original. It is on the table in every Mexican restaurant we have ever enjoyed. But, none of us knew about the 3 new flavors: Chili Lime, Chili Garlic, and Chipotle.
I did this twice with two different sets of my “Crash Test Dummies” with the same results.
Note: “Crash Test Dummies” are friends of ours that submit themselves to testing our new recipes. So far we have had very few casualties.
When folks saw the 4 pack of sauce they would comment on not seeing it before. Then they would look at all of them and pick one for each taco. (Most folks had at least 2)
The results …
No one took the Original sauce, everyone had used it before.
We are going by the fullest bottles left when it was all over.
#3 The Chili Lime.
#2 The Chili Garlic
#1 The Chipotle was the most used and our favorite.
